Hot Cockles was apparently all the rage in Victorian times as a Christmas game. Put simply, you rest your blindfolded head on somebody's lap while everyone else hits you and you try to guess who they are. One site I visited said that the practice was even more "festive" during Medieval times, in which you'd be standing blindfolded in the street while people hit you - but I didn't come across any other sites to corroborate that. At any rate, the Victorian version was used to flirt...making "Hot Cockles" a precursor to Spin the Bottle I suppose.
